ABOUT
Georgia Plantzos is a Greek-Australian filmmaker based in Sydney whose work explores the subtle intersections of family, memory, and creative obsession.
Her latest film, Stone Lions, Liquid Lions (2025), premiered at the 13th Antenna Documentary Film Festival, where it competed in the Best Australian Shorts Competition and received a Highly Commended award and special mention.
A deeply personal exploration of her relationship with her filmmaker father, the documentary captures the humor and tension between their conflicting storytelling approaches, as Georgia navigates his creative inertia and her own struggle to define her voice as a director, all while grappling with the question of why some stories remain unfinished.
In 2024, Georgia was selected for Screen NSW’s Calling Cards workshop, an intensive eight-week program designed to support emerging directors in developing bold, distinctive work. She recently worked as a Director’s Attachment on The Golden Spurtle, a documentary on the World Porridge Championships produced by Hopscotch Films, set for release in 2025.
Alongside her directing work, Georgia has worked extensively as an editor, shaping stories across a range of ABC programs, including Compass, Catalyst, Gruen, and Gardening Australia Junior. She was also assistant editor on The Edge of Life, a feature documentary produced by Stranger Than Fiction Films.
She is currently completing The Novacan Sea Inn, a short film that explores the fragile relationship between memory and grief, continuing her interest in how personal narratives are shaped, distorted, and preserved through storytelling.
